What A Man of Integrity Is About

Reza has left the city for a village in northern Iran, where he lives simply with his wife and son and raises goldfish. A private company that controls the area wants his land and will do anything to get it: his credit is cut off, his water is cut off, he is taken to court, he is threatened. Most of the farmers around him have long since joined the system. He holds out, and holding out eventually requires the exact methods he refuses on principle. The film's real question is not whether corruption can be resisted but how much of yourself survives resisting it. Mohammad Rasoulof's film won the Un Certain Regard prize at Cannes in 2017; his passport was confiscated after he returned to Iran.
