A Queer Story

Law Ka Sing works as a marriage counsellor. He is middle aged and well respected. He hides being gay from the people around him. The root of that lies in a bad experience in childhood. He has been with Sunny for eight years. Sunny is a young hairdresser. He feels no need to hide who he is. That is the largest difference between them. Law is under family pressure to marry. His father, once a Cantonese opera performer, is unbending about it. Other lives around them enter the story too. A friend of his is dying of AIDS. Homosexual acts were a crime in Hong Kong until the early nineties. The film tells all of it without falling into melodrama. George Lam and Jordan Chan appear in the hundred and twelve minute film, a Hong Kong production Shu Kei finished in 1997.
