What A Shine of Rainbows Is About
Tomás is an orphan. Maire O'Donnell takes him out of the orphanage to a small island off the north of Ireland. The island is beautiful: caves, rocks, the sea, and a seal pup stranded on the shore. But Maire's husband Alec will not accept the boy; he cannot see this stammering, frightened child as his son. Tomás has to make a place for himself on the island. Vic Sarin directs, with Connie Nielsen as Maire and Aidan Quinn as Alec. It is adapted from Lilian Beckwith's novel and was shot on the Donegal coast. It has the shape of a children's film and is working on grief, rejection and being accepted.
