What A Taxing Woman's Return Is About
Tax inspector Ryoko Itakura is back, and this time what stands in front of her is a religious sect. Its leader Onizawa is both guru and boss, and the organisation itself is a shell the yakuza use to launder money and dodge tax. Since religious bodies in Japan are almost always tax exempt, the shell costs nothing to maintain. The trail runs into land speculation, politicians and a large construction project. The sequel to Juzo Itami's 1987 A Taxing Woman, with Nobuko Miyamoto again as Itakura and Rentaro Mikuni as Onizawa. Itami made it at the fattest point of the bubble economy and used comedy to show where the money was going.
