Santhanam is the eldest of four children. Their father is gone and their mother is a widow. The weight of the family falls on him. He leaves his own schooling unfinished. He takes a job at a printing press. With what he earns he puts his siblings through school. Two brothers and a sister. All of them get a good education. Years pass and the siblings set themselves up. Once they are comfortable they keep their elder brother at a distance. Santhanam takes it quietly. In the end he finds his own way and becomes a writer.
