What Admiral Yamamoto Is About

Japan signs a pact with Germany and Italy. The country is moving towards war. Isoroku Yamamoto is put at the head of the fleet. Yamamoto is against entering the war. He knows the strength of the United States at first hand. But once the decision is taken he accepts the command. He believes the only chance is to strike the enemy fleet first. The plan for the raid on Pearl Harbor comes out of that. The attack succeeds. The American carriers, however, are not in the harbour. So the target that mattered is not hit. The longer the war runs the smaller the chance of winning. Yamamoto has to command the navy in those conditions. The film tells the events from the Japanese side. Toshirō Mifune and Yūzō Kayama appear in the hundred and thirty minute film, a Japanese production Seiji Maruyama finished in 1968.
