Adopt a Sailor

Fleet Week is held in New York every year. That week, sailors about to ship out are given an evening off. Families who wish to can invite them into their homes. Patricia and Richard become one such couple. Both of them are successful city people. Patricia runs an art gallery. Richard makes films. They take a sailor into their house. The young man comes from a small place in Arkansas. The town is called Turkey Scratch. The evening begins with food and conversation. As the talk goes on, the tone changes. The hurt between the couple comes to the surface. The young man’s plainness widens the gap between them. That night changes all three of them. Bebe Neuwirth and Peter Coyote appear in the eighty five minute film, an American production Charles Evered finished in 2008.
