What Aftermath Is About
The only child of Claes and Britt has died in a traffic accident, and each of them tries to carry it in a way unlike the other. Britt returns to her work as a social counsellor, but the relationship she forms with a young mother in her care and that woman’s small child goes well past the limits of the job. Claes, sent on leave by his employer, wants to find the woman who hit his daughter and speak to her, and does not himself know what he wants from that. The film describes mourning not as a shared pain but as two roads running separately in the same house. The screenplay of Paprika Steen’s hundred and one minute Danish film is by Kim Fupz Aakeson; Sofie Gråbøl plays Britt and Mikael Birkkjær plays Claes. It was completed in 2004.
