What Air Guitar Nation Is About
The air guitar championships had been held for years in Oulu in Finland, but until 2002 nobody from America had turned up. Alexandra Lipsitz starts at the first US contest and follows two competitors, David Jung and Dan Crane, on the road to the world final. Scoring runs on technical accuracy, stage presence, and a quality the contest calls airness. The film takes the joke seriously: going on stage with no guitar in your hands is about the most exposed way there is to throw yourself in front of a crowd. It played at Tribeca in 2006 and runs eighty-one minutes.
