What Alive and Ticking Is About
Eva is a teenage girl with Tourette's syndrome; her tics and the words that come out of her make her a permanent target at school. Her family are used to it: an optimistic father who is no good at his job, a mother who thinks about nothing but shopping, an odd grandmother. When her father is offered work in Berlin they decide to move. Eva does not want to leave, and will try anything to stop it. Andi Rogenhagen's German film has Jasna Fritzi Bauer as Eva. It treats Tourette's as neither a tragedy nor a joke, and introduces Eva through her character rather than her syndrome. It has the shape of a family comedy and does not try to correct anyone.
