What All In: The Fight for Democracy Is About
Lisa Cortes and Liz Garbus's 2020 documentary covers the obstacles to voting in America. Registration rules, the closing of polling places, identity requirements and removal from rolls are each taken up. A state governor's race in 2018 is at the centre. The candidate who lost it is both narrator and subject, showing through her own experience how these obstacles work. The narrative also builds a historical line, covering in detail to whom and when the vote was given and by what methods it was taken back. The film takes a position openly and gives little room to the other view. Who it's for: those interested in American political history and the electoral system. Who it's not for: viewers expecting a neutral account; the documentary has the character of a campaign.
