What An Affair of Love Is About
A woman and a man answer an advertisement and start meeting in hotel rooms for a sexual fantasy she has specified. The real idea of the film is there: we never see or hear what that fantasy is, and it is deliberately withheld. We watch not what happens once the door closes but what comes before and after, the meals, the talk, the thing growing between them against their intentions. Neither character even has a name. Nathalie Baye won the best actress prize at Venice for this.
