What An Alternative Reality: The Football Manager Documentary Is About
The documentary is about people who bury themselves in a football management game and the mark that habit has left on their lives. People who have played it for years, the brothers who made it, and names from the football world that appears inside it all speak in the film. What makes the account interesting is that a game made by football supporters has in time become part of the world it set out to imitate; clubs and agents now look at its data. The film neither defends the game nor belittles it; it asks why people want to manage someone else’s life. The real finding of the account is this: the game is a form of attachment as much as an escape. Louis Myles’s seventy two minute documentary was completed in 2014.
