What And the Birds Rained Down Is About
A photographer goes into the forest looking for Boychuck, a witness to the great fire that swept Northern Ontario at the turn of the twentieth century, and learns on arrival that he has just died. Two old men, Tom and Charlie, have chosen to spend their last years out there answering to nobody. They are joined by Marie Desneige, who spent sixty years inside an institution and now wants to live more than any of them. Meanwhile the photographer discovers that Boychuck had been painting that fire his whole life. Adapting Jocelyne Saucier’s novel, Louise Archambault treats old age not as decline but as a choice still being made.
