Anderson Silva: Like Water

The documentary follows Anderson Silva as he prepares for a title fight in the summer of 2010. The camera goes with him from his home in Brazil to training camps in Los Angeles and Miami. His opponent Chael Sonnen talks constantly in front of the press; Silva says almost nothing. What the film is interested in is not the fight itself so much as the daily life of the man getting ready for it. Pablo Croce's first film screened at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2011, where Croce won the prize for best new documentary director. The telling is not after sensation; family life, training routine and silence are in the foreground. Lyoto Machida, Junior dos Santos and Antonio Nogueira also appear. Some critics found the film too incomplete, saying it does not go into the contested parts of the fighter's career.
