What Anita Is About
Anita is a young woman with Down syndrome living in Buenos Aires with her mother Dora. Her life is orderly and happy; her mother arranges everything. On the morning of 18 July 1994 Dora leaves her in the shop and goes out on an errand. At that moment the nearby Jewish community centre, the AMIA, is bombed. After the explosion Anita is left alone in the street and does not know where to go. The attack was real: more than eighty-five people died and it became the deadliest bombing in Argentina's history. Nobody has been convicted in more than thirty years and the case is still an open political wound in the country. Marcos Carnevale's film makes that event the background and tells the story of a woman left alone in the city. Anita is played by Alejandra Manzo, who has Down syndrome herself. Norma Aleandro plays the mother. A hundred and four minutes.
