Another Dawn

Julieta, the unhappy wife of a failed civil servant, runs into her former lover Octavio one night. Octavio is now a union organiser on the run from the men of a corrupt governor, carrying papers that would expose the arrangement the governor has built with foreign money. Deciding to help him, Julieta finds herself in the night world of Mexico City and finds there both the purpose and the excitement her marriage never gave her. Julio Bracho’s film counts as one of the earliest Mexican films noir. Gabriel Figueroa, one of the great masters of Mexican cinema, shot it. Andrea Palma and Pedro Armendáriz take the leads. The whole story is pressed into a single night, between the cabaret and the dark streets.
