What Anton Chekhov's The Duel Is About
It takes place in a seaside town in the Caucasus. Laevsky is a good for nothing living in a relationship considered illicit with his mistress Nadya. It was he who talked her into leaving her husband, and now he wants to be rid of her. Another man in the town turns Laevsky’s way of living into a moral question, and the tension between them grows. The film was adapted from Chekhov’s long story and lets nobody be entirely in the right. The account does not leave Nadya as a mistake the man made either; it shows what she risked in entering the relationship and what she is losing now. Andrew Scott and Fiona Glascott appear in Dover Koshashvili’s ninety five minute film, completed in 2010.
