What Appointment with Danger Is About

Al Goddard, a postal inspector, is put on the murder of one of his own. He has exactly one thing to work with: a nun who saw it happen. She hesitates about saying what she saw, and Goddard has to talk her into testifying. Meanwhile he works his way inside the gang and into the large mail robbery they are planning. Lewis Allen's 1950 film is one of the harder, drier pieces of American noir. Alan Ladd plays it without softening anywhere; Goddard trusts nobody and cares about nobody, and the real story of the film is what develops between that man and the nun. It also contains an early part for Jack Webb.
