What House by the River Is About
Stephen Byrne is a well-off writer; he makes a pass at the family maid and kills her when she resists. He gets his brother John to help him put the body in the river, then looks for ways to pin the killing on him. His wife Marjorie is inside the rot as well. The strangest part is this: Stephen uses the murder as material for the novel he is writing, and the book succeeds. Fritz Lang directed; a small studio picture of eighty-eight minutes. It drew little notice on release and was later counted among Lang's darkest.
