Cassandra's Dream

A crime drama about two brothers, set in London. Ian and Terry work in their father's restaurant. Each has his own plan: Ian wants to start a business and rise, Terry gambles. They buy a boat together and name it Cassandra's Dream. When Terry's debts grow, things get out of hand. Meanwhile their wealthy uncle Howard appears and agrees to help. But he wants something in return: a man who is going to testify against him must be removed. What the film is interested in is not the crime but what comes after. The two brothers do the same thing, but one can carry it and the other cannot. The narrative is built on that. Colin Farrell plays Terry, Ewan McGregor plays Ian and Tom Wilkinson the uncle. Woody Allen directed; it is one of his London films and goes nowhere near comedy. The score is by Philip Glass and sets the film's register directly. A dark example for anyone who likes crime drama and stories of moral collapse. For a viewer expecting comedy from the director, the film is heavy throughout and leaves no distance from its characters.
