What The Deep End Is About
Margaret's husband is permanently away at work and the children are hers to manage. One morning she finds the body of her son's lover on the shore below their house, and decides without thinking it through: she will make it disappear. Then a man arrives at the door with evidence and a price. The film is less interested in the blackmail than in how she carries the decision, telling nobody, asking for no help, and never letting the household routine slip. Swinton holds the panic entirely in her eyes.
