On 14 January 2020 the British Film Institute announced that it would give Tilda Swinton a Fellowship; the announcement ties the award to her courage as an actor, to her work for independent film exhibition and to her philanthropy. It was to be presented at the annual dinner given by the institution's chair in London. The same institution's review of Suspiria notes a curiosity in the credits: in Luca Guadagnino's film of 2018 she plays Madame Blanc without make-up and credited, and also Dr Jozef Klemperer, under old-man make-up and uncredited, behind the pseudonym Lutz Ebersdorf. Two of the forty-two films here were directed by Bong Joon Ho, Snowpiercer and Okja, four years apart. The honorary Golden Bear of the 2025 Berlinale went to her. Film Independent has twice made her a lead female nominee: in 2002 with The Deep End and in 2015 with Only Lovers Left Alive.
