Broken English

Jane Pollard's 2026 documentary is about the singer Marianne Faithfull. She became known in the sixties and released more than thirty albums across six decades. The argument is that the career was not a single line. Faithfull passed through addiction, homelessness and the loss of her voice; the narrative does not conceal these and makes the rebuilding its real subject. Faithfull took part and spoke for herself; she died in 2025. Tilda Swinton and others read texts. The archive is wide. Who it's for: viewers of music history and portraits of artists. Who it's not for: viewers for whom addiction and abuse would be difficult.
