What Approved for Adoption Is About
Jung is one of the thousands of Korean children given to Western families after the Korean War. He arrives in Belgium as a small boy and grows up among blond siblings. At school, in the street and at home he cannot work out where to place himself. In his teenage years the question of who he is grows larger and the first cracks open between him and his family. Jung Henin and Laurent Boileau directed the film together; Jung is also a comics artist and made the animation himself. The telling uses animation, super-8 footage from the family archive and sections shot in the present all together. The film neither celebrates adoption nor condemns it; Jung is honest about his own family too.
