Apur Panchali

Subir Banerjee acted in a film when he was a child. The character he played was Apu. That film became one of the cornerstones of Bengali cinema. Many years went by afterwards. Subir lived an ordinary life and was forgotten. One day a film student named Arko knocks on his door. The young man brings him an invitation. There is to be an award ceremony in Germany. They are inviting Apu for the anniversary of the film. The old man hesitates to accept. Arko tries to persuade him. As they talk, the life of Subir opens up. The film moves between two periods. The scenes of the past run in black and white and the present in colour. The account draws parallels between the man’s life and the story on screen. Parambrata Chatterjee and Parno Mittra appear in the hundred and seven minute film, an Indian production Kaushik Ganguly finished in 2014.
