What Sound Is About
Tarak is an artist who makes sound effects for cinema; the footsteps, the creaking doors and the rain in films he builds with his own hands. He is so taken by the work that after a while he is shut inside his own world: he hears sound everywhere, begins to separate the noise of daily life as material belonging to his work, and his ties to those around him weaken. While showing how sound is made, the film also tells how a person can become one with a trade. The account does not present this state as an illness but as the place a passion arrives at. Ritwick Chakraborty plays the lead in Kaushik Ganguly’s hundred minute Indian film, completed in 2013.
