A thriller about the world of money, made after the financial crisis of 2008. Robert Miller owns a large investment fund. He is about to sell the company and has to conceal a hole in the accounts until the sale closes. In the same days an accident happens in his private life and he leaves the scene. From there two lines run together: the financial truth hidden from auditors and buyer, and the accident the police are pursuing. What they have in common is that each time, Miller arranges for someone else to carry the risk. That is the hardest thing about the film. Miller is not a crude villain; he is attached to his family, calculating, and a believer in the story he tells about himself. Everyone he asks for help is less protected than he is, and they pay. Richard Gere plays Miller, Susan Sarandon his wife and Tim Roth the detective running the investigation. Brit Marling plays his daughter, who is responsible for the company's finances. It is Nicholas Jarecki's first feature. A solid example for anyone who likes thrillers about finance and crime films built on character. For a viewer waiting for justice to land, the film does not promise it.
