What Hidden Agenda Is About
Northern Ireland in the 1980s. An American human rights delegation is investigating the conduct of the security forces when one of its members is shot dead in the street. What he leaves behind is a recording suggesting that a group inside British intelligence worked to bring down a Labour government. The investigator sent to look into it runs into the wall of his own state. Ken Loach's film draws on the shoot-to-kill allegations of the period and on the real police investigator who was removed from that inquiry. It took the jury prize at Cannes in 1990 and was attacked in the British press.
