What Kneecap Is About
A group rapping in Irish forms in Belfast, and the question of language quickly becomes a political one. The boldest thing about it is that the members play themselves, which usually produces amateurism and here raises the energy instead. Drugs, policing and identity are handled at once and none of them is weighted down with solemnity. The question underneath is genuine: does a language die when it stops being spoken, or when its speakers are treated as criminals? The swearing and drug use are constant, so it is not for everyone.
