What As Long as You've Got Your Health Is About
Pierre Étaix's comedy in four parts. In the first a man reading a vampire novel in bed loses the ability to tell the book from the room and cannot sleep. In the second a man cannot get free of the absurd advertisements he saw at the cinema that day. In the third a town full of pollution and building work has everyone on edge. In the fourth a hunter, a farmer and a couple on a picnic take turns causing each other trouble without ever noticing. Étaix wrote, directed and starred, and he works from the body, from timing and from the logic of silent comedy rather than from dialogue. Its aim at the noise of modern life and at advertising has not dated.
