Fettah, who lives in a small coastal town in Morocco, gets by helping the tourists who come every summer; he knows the sea and the wind better than anyone. That summer a closeness forms between him and one of the visitors, and after she leaves an idea stays in his head: to cross to the far shore, to Europe, on a windsurf board. This is not a plan of escape but a way of proving something; yet the preparation, the weather and the distance forgive nothing. The film shows the sea as both an opening and a limit and does not hide what the decision costs. The account uses few words and gives its weight to image and sound. Thekla Reuten appears in Jan-Willem van Ewijk’s ninety four minute film, completed in 2014.
