Autumn

Ilya and Sasha loved each other when they were young. Then they parted. Ilya became a doctor and married. Sasha studied engineering and married as well. Years later they come together again. The meeting place is a remote railway halt. There they present themselves as husband and wife. In fact the man is still married. The woman has a marriage that ended behind her. They have eight days in hand. Nobody there knows them. For those eight days nobody comes between them. What waits at the end of those days is not spoken of. The account stays at that halt in the autumn. Natalya Rudnaya and Leonid Kulagin take the leads, with Natalya Gundareva also in the cast, in Andrey Smirnov’s Soviet film of 1974.
