What My Father Is About
Yusuf Tunali owns a factory that cans sardines, and the factory is going under. When his wife dies he is left alone with his son Arif, who has an intellectual disability. For a man who has spent years unable to accept his son’s condition, this becomes the hardest test there is. Feride, a young teacher who takes a job at the factory because she could not get a posting, draws Arif out of his shell, and the father’s view of his son changes with it. As what happens to the three of them brings them closer, Yusuf begins making decisions nobody expected. The film shows fatherhood not as a feeling but as work learned late. Cetin Tekindor plays the lead in Nihat Durak’s hundred and thirty minute film, completed in 2017.
