Babo: The Haftbefehl Story

Aykut Anhan grew up in Offenbach. His father lost his life over gambling debts and the family broke apart. Aykut made money selling drugs. Then he started rapping. He wrote in the language spoken on the street, a mixture of Turkish and German, and that language spread quickly in Germany. One song made him known across the country. The documentary looks at the present: the man is dealing with addiction, sees his children, describes his past, and makes nothing pretty. Sinan Sevinç directs with Juan Moreno. Aykut Anhan, his family and people around him speak in it; Jan Delay, Marteria and the producer Bazzazian are there from the music world. It is a German production. The documentary went out on Netflix on 28 October 2025. The shoot took about three years; recording ran from the start of 2022 to the end of 2024. The actor Elyas M'Barek was involved in the production. The matter it treats is addiction and the figure of the father; the music is not at its centre. The documentary uses reconstructed scenes and that choice was criticised; some reviewers wrote that it weakened the film. The narrative does not place Haftbefehl's music in the context of its subculture and that gap was remarked on. Its strongest side is the main subject defending nothing while talking about himself. Its limit is method; there are too many reconstructions, the guest interviews are superficial, and the structure is scattered.
