Balkan Line

In 1999, with the NATO intervention under way, a small Russian special forces team is ordered to seize the airport at Pristina. A peacekeeping column is on the road. The film centres a real event, the Russian unit reaching the airport ahead of Western forces. It builds this as a military operation, but the sides are drawn in one direction: the Serbian and Russian characters protect, while the Albanian characters appear almost entirely as a threat. Andrey Volgin directed. It is a Russian and Serbian production and did strong business in both countries. A real warning: the film tells the Kosovo war from one side only and was criticised as propaganda. Watch it as an example of a viewpoint, not as a historical source.
