Quo Vadis, Aida?

In July 1995 in Srebrenica, a teacher working as an interpreter at the United Nations base tries to get her own family inside among the thousands fleeing the town. The base has no capacity and the command cannot make a decision. The film does not show the massacre; the narrative is built entirely on her running the corridors from one person to the next, and the viewer, with her, is too late for everything. That is exactly the subject: an institution failing to decide is a decision. Jasmila Zbanic wrote and directed, with Jasna Duricic in the lead. It is a Bosnian production and was nominated for the foreign film Academy Award. A real warning: the film is about the Srebrenica genocide and its ending is extremely heavy. It does not show the violence directly, and what it leaves behind is no lighter for that.
