On the Path

Luna and Amar have been together two years in Sarajevo and neither of them thinks about religion. Luna is a flight attendant; Amar works on the ground at the airport and loses his job over drinking. He takes temporary work out of town beside a Wahhabi community and over time attaches himself to that life. When Luna goes to visit she finds him fundamentally changed: the drinking has stopped, a kind of peace has arrived, and now he wants her to take the same path. Jasmila Žbanić does not build the film as an argument against religion; she stands at the point where both sides of a relationship can be right at once. It played in competition at the Berlinale.
