Ballerina

Ballerina (2025) is set in the John Wick universe, running concurrently with the events of the third film. Eve witnesses her father's killing and is taken in and raised by the Ruska Roma; ballet and combat are the same training. As an adult she finds the organisation that killed him and goes after it against the institution's rules. The world expands here. There is a town in the Austrian Alps that belongs entirely to that organisation; everyone who looks ordinary is armed. The fight design is built on Eve's physical disadvantage. Her opponents are bigger and stronger, so she uses every object around her. The finale with flame weapons is among the series' most inventive action. Ana de Armas went through long preparation for the part. Keanu Reeves appears in a few scenes and does not take over the story. Extensive reshoots were carried out during production, supervised by the director of the John Wick films, and some of the fight sequences were rebuilt. For anyone who has not seen the series the rules of the world go past quickly and some details are left hanging. It runs 125 minutes. Good for: action, the John Wick series, and fight choreography. Less good for: the violence is heavy, the story is thin, and parts do not land without the series.
