Bengal in the nineteen thirties, under British rule. Kalyani has been sentenced to life for murder and is serving it in prison. Devendra, the young doctor, falls in love with her. Her past is tied to Bikash, a fighter for independence; she fell for him when she was young, and when he failed to come back from a mission her life came apart. In the end Kalyani has to choose between the two men. The film tells imprisonment not only through walls but through a woman staying bound to her own past.
