Barcelona

Ted, an American sales representative, is working in Barcelona at the end of the eighties and trying to live by rules he has set himself. His cousin Fred arrives in the city as a naval officer and follows no rules at all. They share a flat, go out with the same women, and the anti-American mood in the city affects both directly. Whit Stillman wrote it out of his own years in Barcelona. The film rests on talk rather than plot, with the two men arguing endlessly about politics, love and America and neither of them turning out right. Taylor Nichols and Chris Eigeman star. Toward the end a real act of violence enters and the comic tone changes at once. Who it is for: viewers who like talk-driven American independent comedy. Who it is not for: anyone wanting action or a fast plot.
