Xavier, a French economics student, spends an Erasmus year in Barcelona sharing a flat with students from seven countries. Cédric Klapisch starts it like a romance and turns it into a portrait of a generation instead. Its smartest decision is linguistic. Dialogue moves between French, English, Spanish and Catalan, because that is how that flat would actually sound. The friction between Catalan and Spanish gets its own argument scene rather than being smoothed away. Romain Duris leads, with Audrey Tautou and Judith Godrèche in support.
