Barefoot

An American romantic comedy. Jay is the troubled son of a wealthy family. He has gambling debts, is estranged from his parents, and is ordered by a court to do cleaning work at a hospital. The hospital is a psychiatric one. There he meets Daisy. She has lived her whole life with her mother, never having gone outside; she does not know the world, does not know how to talk to people, and wears no shoes. Jay's brother is getting married and he needs to show his family he has built a proper life. He proposes presenting Daisy as his girlfriend. The two set off together. The line the film follows is familiar: a fake relationship becomes real. What separates it is Daisy seeing the world for the first time; along the way ordinary things are new to her. It is a remake of a German film and the screenplay is by the same writer. Evan Rachel Wood plays Daisy and Scott Speedman plays Jay. J. K. Simmons and Treat Williams are in the cast. Andrew Fleming directed. A sweet choice for anyone who likes light romance and road stories. For a viewer looking for realism, the film uses mental health as a romantic device and was criticised for it.
