What Bauhaus Spirit: 100 Years of Bauhaus Is About
Bauhaus was founded in 1919 by Walter Gropius. Its aim was to unite sculpture, painting, design and architecture in a single field. The school tried to hold free imagination and strict structure together. But Bauhaus was never only an artistic experiment. There were the social conditions of the time it was founded, and the experience of the First World War. So the movement concerned itself with the political and social side of design from the very start. The documentary tells that history. The account runs from the early twentieth century to the present day. Architecture and urban planning are inside the film as well. Thomas Tielsch and Niels Bolbrinker’s German documentary of 2018 runs ninety five minutes.
