Natasha arrives at a holiday town with her small son and cannot find anywhere to stay; the season is full and the landladies do not want guests with children. Out of options, she talks a stranger she meets on the way, Viktor, into pretending to be her husband. Alla Surikova's 1981 comedy starts there and heads where you expect, but it walks rather than hurries. Andrey Mironov leads it, and his timing and his balance with Elena Proklova are what hold the film up. It became one of the best loved Soviet summer comedies, and the squeeze it is built on, the plain impossibility of finding a room, was lifted straight out of the daily life of the period.
