What Beast Cops Is About
Tung is a street cop in Hong Kong. He works to the neighbourhood rather than to the rules: he sits in the gambling houses, drinks with the hired guns, is friendly with the hustlers. One of the people closest to him is a triad named Fai. A new officer arrives from above: Michael, clean, working by the book. Fai has a rival killed, the job goes wrong, and he disappears. The people trying to fill the space he leaves turn the district bloody, and Tung is in the middle. Gordon Chan and Dante Lam direct; a hundred and ten minutes, with Anthony Wong as Tung. It was named best film at the Hong Kong Film Awards in 1999, and Wong took best actor.
