What Beaver Trilogy Is About
The trilogy Trent Harris assembled in 2000 begins in a Salt Lake City parking lot in 1979. While Harris is testing his camera, a young man from the town of Beaver comes up to him and invites him to film a talent show he has organised himself. At the show he puts on a blond wig and performs as Olivia Newton-John, and Harris records all of it. The second part is the same story shot again on a hundred-dollar video camera with a young Sean Penn. The third is a larger version made with Crispin Glover. The real subject of the trilogy may not be that man at all: it may be the conscience of a director who put someone that unguarded on camera.
