Believe Me: The Abduction of Lisa McVey

An account of a real case in Florida in 1984. Lisa McVey is a teenager who has been abused since she was seven and has nobody at home looking out for her. Cycling home from work one night she is abducted and held for twenty-six hours. At the centre is what Lisa does in that time. She talks to the man, tries to make herself a person to him, deliberately leaves fingerprints, and when she is released describes every detail she can recall: his voice, his smell, the objects in the house, the sound of the car. Then the second matter begins: the police do not believe her. Because of her history and what she has lived through, she is thought to have made it up and is put on a polygraph. The information she gave was ultimately decisive in the capture of a serial killer, Bobby Joe Long. McVey later became a police officer herself. Katie Douglas plays Lisa. It was made for television.
