What Between Two Worlds Is About
A port city during the war. A group of people board a ship without remembering how they got on it. The ship is empty: no crew in sight, the deck silent, fog on the horizon. The passengers ask each other where they are going. Nobody knows. In time what they have in common becomes clear. Then an examiner comes aboard and calls each of them in turn to account for their life, and where each is going is decided there. Edward A. Blatt directs the American film; a hundred and twelve minutes, with John Garfield, Paul Henreid, Sydney Greenstreet, Eleanor Parker and Edmund Gwenn in the cast. It is adapted from Sutton Vane's play, which had already been filmed in 1930 as Outward Bound. This time the story is moved into the Second World War.
