Beyond Tomorrow

Christmas Eve. Three elderly business partners are alone in their house. When nobody comes, they play a game: they throw their wallets into the street and will invite whoever brings one back to dinner. Two people come: James, a cowboy, and Jean, a teacher. The evening goes well and the three old men push the two of them together. Then their plane goes down. The three come back as ghosts and find that James and Jean have fallen out. All they want to do with the time they have left is put it right. A. Edward Sutherland directs; eighty-four minutes, with Harry Carey, C. Aubrey Smith and Charles Winninger in the cast, made in 1940. It is one of the Christmas films that ran on television for decades and, its copyright having lapsed, turns up everywhere.
